Hi,
As I was adjusting my brakes I've discovered that one of the rear drums was soaked in axle oil. Before I take everything apart what seals am I likely to have to replace? The oil seal ring and the axle shaft joint?
Regards,
Pascal

Re: rear axle leaks oil
You are sure that it is oil and not brake fluid?
A fairly sraight forward job of removing the brake assembly and the half shaft and replacing the rubber ring, bearing oil seal and paper gasket.
If the brake shoes are contaminated you will have to fit a new set to both sides.

BUT - consider why it has leaked - are the hub bearings in poor condition, giving the seal an impossible task ? Was the axle perhaps overfilled ? And -is the little breather on top of the axle casing perhaps blocked ??
