what is the best way to remove paint en-mass? as in car roof, bonnets, wings and doors, not a whole job, just individually. would some form of scrubby motion thingy that attaches to a drill or an angle grinder or maybe the more chemical form of attack do the trick?

AS long as you remove it all afterwards, Nitromors is the easiest, scrape off the bulk of the paint with a scraper after the nitromors application and the paint had been left to bubble and lift. Followed by an orbital sander to remove the remainder. Start with 60 grit, then 120, and finally 180/240 before etch priming.

As for mechanical means, use a "clean and strip" disc in a grinder.

I would wait a few months though as the weather is still too cold for painting unless you have a heated booth.

Unless it's desperate (ie handpainted in Dulux!) - I suggest just flatting down and priming over the top. It's a LOT of work to remove ALL the paint.

i thought about flattening it down, but its had 4 different paint jobs, all of varing degrees of success, and owing to some very large scratches and areas where the pain has flaked off, i was intending to do a bare metal job, but that wont till be at least august when its warmer

BMC would be right if it was only 1 cellulose re-spray over the original, but if you have many layers of paint (and possibly incompatible types of paint) you could be in for problems with lifting and wrinkling, best to strip it all off and etch prime.

Assuming the weather does get warm by August, of course!!
