Hi there. I am looking for some more powerful bulbs for my '65 moggy but don't want to 'convert' to halogen, only change the bulb. I have been looking online for a few and listed them below. Would these be a direct fit from my current bulbs?
- H7 ABD 12V 55W Xenon Extreme White Quartz Bulbs
- H7 ABD StyleVision +50% 12v 55w bulbs NEW!
- H7 Ice Blue Halogen bulb 55 watts
- XENON MEGA WHITE H7 +50% - 12V H7 55W - Halogen

Well those 2 confused me after your original request, but I am confused easily.

Sorry. I am firstly asking if these bulbs have the correct end (plug/pins) for my car and if so, would these bulbs that I've linked to be suitable?

I think what Stephen means is that he wants to fit uprated, or halogen type bulbs into the original prefocus bulb headlights that would be fitted to a 1965 car, so the overall appearance is unchanged, but you can see at night!

As far as i know there isnt a standard halogen bulb to fit theolder headlights but some of the classic car electrical suppliers now supply a special bulb for older cars. I spoke to one supplier at a show and he could even supply them in 6v for a prewar Hudson Terraplane.

I really think you will struggle to get bulbs to fit the older lights - and maybe you have 'sealed beams' anyway ? You will need a halogen conversion kit - and then you can worry about the so called 'uprated' bulbs. Be aware you can only use 55 watt bulbs on the highway - so 80 watt and 100 watt bulbs are verbotten - and would burn out the wiring anyway! The halogen conversions use H4 twin filament bulbs - NOT H7s!! I recently bought some 'uprated' bulbs for my modern - they are not one bit brighter than the originals! I changed one of them to see the effect (and also because the other side is going to be v difficult to access!) - and the light output/spread/'whiteness' etc is no different, both on the road - and up against the garage doors.

i would go for the wipac conversion the lights just look a bit flatter in appearence.putting halogen bulbs in old light units might not work ,it depends on the state of the reflector.i think they are ubder 30 pounds to buy .

I emailed the guy and he said that there are possibly 2 types of connectors. One I would just buy an H4 bulb. The other (which I have) is the 'CLB6' on www.classic-car-accessories.co.uk and this would require the ceramic connector which basically creates a different plug for the newer style H7 bulbs to fit into. Due to lack of money (of course) I will just stick with mine. However it is good to know that if I do want to change over, it isn't difficult. But interesting reading comments that theres no difference?

As far as I know - H 7 bulbs are single filament! I think they are talking 'mince' !!! I do see them offering their CLB60 halogen bulb - that appears to fit the older style 'bulb' headlights - but it is a twin filament bulb - certainly NOT an H7 ! And yes - you would need to fit the appropriate connector - which is the common type for sealed beams and H4 bulbs. What headlights do you have at the moment - old fashioned bulb type - or sealed beams ?

Halogen light units have a beam pattern on the lens designed to get the best results from the halogen bulbs. For around £30 which is only about twice the price of the bulbs on their own, and not much more than the cost of uprated bulbs, you may as well fit a set of Wipac Quadoptics. I am sure that nobody will notice any slight difference in lens shape and you will be pleased with the results on dark country lanes

If its still original it should be on pre focus bulbs for a 1965 car. Think it was '66 when sealed beams were standard fitment.

Mine are the seperate bulbs not sealed beams. Only me fogs are sealed ;)

Go for the halogen conversion. You can get the bulbs anywhere and don't have to carry a complete headlamp as a spare. They're brighter/safer. From about 3' away from the car you cannot tell whether it has halogen or original lights, so it won't ruin the "original look" of the car.
