haven't touched the moggy since before xmas as it's been to cold and snowy, so i tried the other day and it wouldn't start (it's in the garage ). it turned over but no firing so I cleaned and reset the plugs, cleaned the dizzy cap but still no joy,I even tried another dizzy cap , I turned the ignition on and opened the points using a screwdriver, there was a spark so could it be that the timing might be slightly out.

Most probably no fuel. Can you hear the fuel pump ticking? Turn ignition on and tap the pump body with a light hammer and see if it starts ticking like mad....

I agree - it's going to be fuel feed problem - or just flat battery not turning it fast enough ? I have my 'wintered' cars on solar chargers to keep the batteries up.
hi all, it must be the battery that's not whizzing it over fast enough as there is fuel, the pump kicks over for a few seconds when I turn the ignition on, and when I took the plugs out I could smell fuel, I think i'll get our barrie to bring his booster over and give it a blast.
cheers mungo
If the starter motor is sucking all the power out of the battery, try starting it on the handle so that all the power goes to the plugs.
A big fat spark often works
