Re: broken speedo
Probably doable, what are the symptoms?
Re: broken speedo
Maybe you can 'wash it out' - but if it's a standard Minor black-face speedo, they are cheap enough to just get another. Unusual for oil to go up - are you sure that's the problem ? Are both the miles and the speed dead ?

Re: broken speedo
You have Series MM SMM 139037 which has a small speedo in front of the driver. Before taking things apart what are the symptoms? Is the speedo not working at all or is the needle swinging or is there some other problem. Once I know what the problem is then I can advise you if it can be fixed.

Most of the time the needle doesn't move and if it does it says Im doing 20miles when Im going much faster. The mile counter is also not working at all.

Re: broken speedo
First check the speedo cable. Remove the inst. panel cover by undoing the 2 bolts holding the brackets underneath and then remove the 3 screws in the corners of the inst. panel and pull the panel forward enough to unscrew the cable from the back of the speedo. Remove the inner cable and check for damage, fraying etc. If there is any damage then replace both the inner and outer cable. A Morris 1000 cable will fit.
You can inspect the speedo by removing the 2 bolts holding it to the inst panel and taking the speedo out.
Handle the speedo with care. Remove the glass by rotating the bezel until the glass comes off and then undo the two screws at the back of the speedo and gently tip the insides out.
First check that the insides are clean and free from oil which can come up the cable and contaminate the mechanism.
The mileometer is driven by a nylon cog so check its condition.
You can check that the speedo needle is moving by using an electric drill with an attachment which will fit in the cable slot and spin it slowly in reverse. The speedo needle should respond.
If everything is in working order then reassemble the speedo and refit it. There may be companies in Australia which will repair car instruments or you may need to replace it if it is damaged.
Note that the same speedo is used on the early Series 11s but with a different gearing. The correct speedo for the MM has 1600 on the face and the S11 has 1000 so if you need to replace it be sure to buy the correct unit.
When the inst panel is replaced and before the cover is refitted switch on the lights and check the two panel light bulbs. If they are not working first check the small sliding switch under the centre panel below the ignition switch.
