what different lights could you put on a van without much trouble. Apart from possibly welding the light cradle on the van. as i would use my van daily and am a bit scared of the visibility of the rear lights. will any lucas or mini light work. or does anyone know of any others

You can improve the rear lights by fitting a piece of 'chrome' plastic behind the bulb - this reflects much more light into the lens. Also - LED replacement bulbs are available these days - you may want to consider them. Does the Van have flat lenses as standard in the rear lights ? Certainly Mini etc lights won't fit - there's nothing to stop you adding additional rear lights - mounted right at the top - on each side.

Dont mean to be picky but the later LCV's do have the larger "sticking out" lenses. Yes the early LCVs, did just have one singular flat Red lense, but I believe that when the two lenses where introduced ie indicator and stop/sides where separate units they used the "sticking out" lenses and these vehicles had longer rubber buffers/bumbers to protect the lenses accordingly.
Mini Front indicators and Mog traveller rear lights are exactly the same as later LCV's. You could try and find a set of Mini Pickup rear lights but finding a set isnt going to be that easy and they're probably no better anyway.
As BMC suggest you can fit LED bulbs these days but they are quite expensive really, a cheaper version of light output could be to fit a lighter colour pigment of lense ie plastic lenses instead of the glass ones and use coloured bulbs, I tend to find that the glass versions although are loads nicer to look at tend to absorb some of the light because they are so thick.
Try looking at the new Landrover Defender rear lights they're nearly the same to look at and wouldnt look that wrong. They must be ok for light output if a modern vehicle is using them?
