stripping a 1098cc engine

hi i need help from you guys and i have been stripping a 1098cc engine and have taken the head off and got down to the block i want to know the next stage to strip the engine.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Remove the clutch and the flywheel, and the backplate. Remove the head studs (lock two nuts together) - then off with the sump. and wedge the crank with a clean piece of wood - and undo the starter dog holding the pulley on, and pull the pulley clear. Remove the oil intake filter - then undo the big ends - keep them in their matched sets - and push the pistons out the bores. I suggest you take digi pics at each stage to remind you how it all goes back together again! If you want the crank out - remove the timing case and then undo the securing nut and remove the timing gears. Then undo the mains caps - and lift the crank out(you may need to take the front plate off - but I don't think so!) ! Remove the oil pump (at rear) - take the two side covers off the block and take the cam followers out, remove the dizzy and it's drive shaft, then remove the triangle plate on the front cover - and gently ease the camshaft out - don't let it drop and score the bearings as you take it out - support it inside the block with one hand and pull it out the front with the other. Simples!

hi roy glad i have got you to instruct me i have been told the engine needs a complete rebuild so what does this involve me doing

Well -stripping as you are planning - and inspecting/measuring the moving parts. The bores don't look too bad - who says it needs a complete rebuild ?

a mate of mine said to me when i bought that car off moggietom that he owned it before tom and said the engine is tired and needs a rebuild

Ahh - but 'tired' doesn't necessarily mean it need a comple rebuild. So don't rush in to anything too expensive if you don't need to. How about some close ups of the 4 bores - clean off the oil with a rag - and position the pistons half way up.

The engine is certainly nicely painted! It's also had some attention - since it has the much later Mini rocker gear - and the later Mini head nuts. What casting number is on the cylinder head ?

LOOKS A DESCENT MOTOR BY THE PICS, LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE COME THIS FAR YOU MIGHT AS WELL GO THE WHOLE HOGG AND CHECK THE REST.PERSONALLY I WOULD HAVE RAN IT FIRST CHECKED COMPRESSIONS.GOOD LUCK. :) :)
