I know you dont have to have wing mirrors fitted, but if they are fitted, do they need to be functional?
My current ones serve more as wind resistance that assisting in maneuvering!
Is it like not being allowed a bald spare tyre to pass the MOT but if you dont have one atall your alright!
I will be fitting some functioning ones soon, just not straight away, im going to put the car in for the MOT once ive done all the obvious MOT failures and see what happens! So they can make me a nice list for the re-test.
Thanks
Andrew

My wing mirrors are great! Wish modern cars had them - the field of view is much better than daft mirrors on the doors!

Re: wing mirrors!
You must go for the convex glass type, flat glass is worse than useless. And get the longest arms that you can. Wing mirrors are also good for positioning the n/s wing, saves denting it on the gate post.
LCVs should of course have outside mirrors on each side and so too should Travellers being utility vehicles, but I doubt if it gets picked up on MOTs.

The MoT manual says:
Obligatory mirrors
Obligatory mirrors are a. an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the driver’s seat), or b. an exterior mirror fitted to the nearside (left hand side when seated in the driver’s seat), or c. an interior mirror.
Passenger vehicles with no more than 7 passenger seats first used before 1 August 1978 must have any one of the above options.
Additional mirrors
Any mirrors additional to the obligatory mirrors are not subject to this inspection.
So, one usable mirror, and you're OK - any others can be in any condition.
If you want an analogy with tyres, think of the tyres on road wheels as equivalent to your single "obligatory mirror", and your spare as equivalent to an "additional mirror" - needn't be there, and if it is, it can be useless.
This inspection applies to Tyres fitted to the road wheels only. The vehicle presenter should be informed when it is noticed that there is a defective tyre on a spare wheel.
The tester is not obliged to, indeed he is forbidden from, ferkling around to see what a spare is like inside its carrier.
