Windscreen Wiper Removal....

hi,
I had a go at removing the windscreen wipers, but the clip you're meant to lift up refuses to move. There's no rust etc so I don't know whats wrong. Maybe im just not doing it right. Please can someone tell me how to take off the wipers, and a good way to lift up the clip (i tried with a small screwdriver).
Thanks

Ah, don't lift it.
Get a small flat-bladed screwdriver in between the wiper arm and the clip, and push the clip back towards the windscreen. It should pop out (and then fly across the drive, never to be seen again...). The wiper arm will just pull off. Refitting is the reversal &c. &c.
Be careful with the screwdriver, though - don't want to scratch the paintwork! Maybe tape over the edge just to be safe?

ah- the Haynes manual implied I was meant to push it away from the windscreen. Looking at the wiperblades area it looks as though there are no rubbers to stop water getting in, probably explains wet parcel shelves etc

Luckily the only reason im trying to remove the wipers is to fit new rubbers anyway

There should be a rubber underneath the chrome embellisher, but that's probably flattened beyond all recognition, or disintegrated. That's how I get the wipers off anyway - and I remember trying several different ways!!

I've found the wiper arms that fix to the spindle using a clamp activated by a central screw the easiest to fit and remove. Much "finer "adjustment as well enabling better positioning on the spindle splines. Maybe not original but avoids the potential to damage paintwork, fingers and hands with a screwdriver.

Yes, I used to have those (or rather one of those...) but the spring lost its springiness, and the arm had discoloured, so I put a new pair on. They do make removal much easer and safer, however!

place a small flat piece of wood on the body which the screwdriver can push against, but the key is to pull the wiper squarly

Kevin's correct - I mentioned in another thread that I had traced a leak to the left hand wiper embellisher/body joint leaking on my Traveller. Wrecked my radio/c.d
Originally thought to be a leaking widscreen, yes the water WAS leaking along and behind the inside of the screen rubber it was only after the screen had been out three times, resealed and on the last occasion re-rubbered that the source of the deluge was found.

It seems to be water leak season at the moment, it's all the rain we've been getting!

yeah you can remove anything with a hammer, its just that you will have to rebuild the bit you removed and most of the surrounding structure!!!

very very true. My attempts at wiper removal are not going well, all that happens is the clip is ominously bending. I think its the clip. 2 little prongs which appear to be connected to a thin strip of metal.
