Just wondering if I have to spray paint bare metal with a can of acid etch primer before spraying on the standard grey primer ???

I'd advise that you do use an etch firts coat, followed by your standard primer. Are you painting in cellulose?

It is essential with ali and advisable with steel to use etch primer to ensure proper adhesion. Although on steel if you are applying several layers of normal primer, you can get away with just a "mist" or dusting of etch primer over all the bare metal areas. Also, make sure you clean the area with panel wipe before spraying the etch primer.

Yes, just from a rattle can. Which etch primer should I get ? I have the deep set primer already that I'm using on the bonnet with deep scratches that I just have to sand down with 800 grid paper.
