Hello everyone
Doreen had a spot of bother recently, what with the cold weather and everything. She was very sluggish in the mornings so I put a new battery in. Yet when I turned the ignition, there was a clunk and nothing else happened.
A search on the forum under ignition and starter motor, with adjectives such as sluggish, dead & problem led me to a couple of old threads highlighting a sticky starter motor. Most importantly, there were solutions. So I put the car in gear, with the ignition off (Thank you bmcecosse!) and starting to bizarrely rock the girl back and forward. Suddenly there was a clunk sound, and everything seemed to free up. Hey presto, we started first time!
You have to understand how utterly unmechanical I am, and getting a car started like this is near miraculous. There are very few mechanical problems which have not been discussed here in the past few years. I am writing this post simply to say that if you have a search around on the forum, you will find the answer somewhere.
My local friendly mechanic is cleaning out the starter motor this morning for me. And to think that I thought that Bendix was a type of washing machine!
Hope all is well in everybody's world.
