Minors in Sri Lanka

I thought folks might like to know that there are still a few Minors in use in Sri Lanka, having just spent two weeks there. I spotted these two in Galle, but saw a couple in Kandy and Colombo (the capital). OK, the maroon tourer was there for a film shoot so maybe that doesn't count, but the lowlight was just parked in a side street. It seemed to be mostly earlier models so maybe the later ones weren't exported or just haven't been looked after so well.

We do have MMOC members based in Sri Lanka so one of those cars (black one?) could belong to them.

It's set up super high on the suspension - wonder if the roads in SL are actually in worse condition than the roads in GB ??

The major roads are very nice and smooth, the side roads are reasonable too.
I don't think there is much pipework underneath or it is newer and they don't dig it up as often as we seem to.
Melting tarmac is likely to be a bigger problem than frost heave

I was impressed with how good the roads were, but was reminded that the main road south from Colombo would have been relaid 5 years ago after the tsunami.

Have fun MarkyB, it was around 30 degrees near the coast but nice and cool in the "hill country" (1600m). A bit of a shock getting back here to 3 degrees!

Well things must have improved since last autumn when I was there, true the main roads are ok (there must be at least 5 or 6) as for the side roads, most we went on were far worse than over here that's why travelling anywhere took so long for the distance travelled.
One thing you didn't mention was the overtaking hooter only used when you come up behind another car and go to overtake, sound the hooter then decide which is the best side to overtake middle of road approaching bends is a favorite or in villages overtaking on the inside to try and flatten some of the many dogs asleep in the road while trying to put the wind up pedestrians, this is not a country I would want to drive in.

The roads are one thing, and the driving another.
I found it quite disciplined compared with India where anything goes as long as you keep moving.
I've ridden a motorbike (a Bullet) there and the only time i had a problem was when I stopped at a T junction when I should have blended into the traffic that was crossing somehow. Cue a lot more horn blowing than usual
