Front bumper Tube Length Please

Post by BigDawgV8 »

Hi all,

I need a favour from some kind soul.

I need the total length of one of the front bumper tubes.
(From where it joins the inner wing to the end of the threaded part)

Can someone help asap please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Ive measured two or three and they vary slightly. The position of the wheelarch probably varied in the factory by as much as 1/4" and the position was therefore set from the front backwards using an alignment jig.

The average Ive measured is 11" to the centreline of the hole on the top of the opening, the shortest dimension is 10 3/8" from the furthest forward point of the wheelarch and 11 3/8" on the inside is the longest dimension.

Its also about 3 1/2" from the front face of the front support bracket.

The trouble is that this may not work out right on your car and result in the bumper being 1/4" too far forward so you are probably best fit it slightly further back if anything as you can pack out a little with washers.

If the one on the other side is still in place youre better off using this as a reference point.

The other way is to bolt the tube to the bumper irons and front valance and position it all so it looks right before welding.

JLH will be hiring out alignment jigs at some stage if you can wait! - you can then get it spot on as per factory!!

There should be some caps that go over the end of the tubes which the bumper bar bolts up against. These caps hide any packing washers that are behind. I may be wrong but I always figured out that was their main purpose for been there.....?
