Morris Minor Owners Club

Hi, I am after some general advice about morris minors.

I've been thinking about getting one as my daily car for about the last 18 months .. i was bullied into buying a modern car - which i hate with avengance. After seeing a few cars for sale privately, I have now kinda cheated and have gone to charles ware and they are now in the process of revamping a four door saloon for me. (I haven't got the time, knowledge or space to restore one)

What i would really like are some tips in generally keeping her in really good condition - I hope to do most of the servicing myself. I'm after a workshop manual and i'm not too sure which to go for - i've read reviews about haynes manuals, but i'm not sure that this would be the best one to go for... any ideas?

welcome to the world of the Morris Minor,i dont know what Charlie is charging you but you may have found it a lot cheaper to get one that has already been done and is well sorted.
Manuals-for what they cost on ebay,i would get any you spot,haynes is good as a guide for quick jobs and data,the one to get is the factory workshop manual.I have a pitmans manual,haynes handbook,haynes manual,BMC Manual,Leyland Minor manual,autobooks manual,owners handbook etc,apart from the leyland one which i bought new,they were all less than a fiver.

Knowledge is power!

If you havent already you will need a set of imperial sized spanners and a grease gun,and if you have a basic knowledge of cars then the Moggie will be your friend

I bought my truck at the end of the summer and though I bought a Haynes manual I find I use a PDF of the workshop manual most of the time (there's a link on the forum somewhere).

When will you get the car? Put your location in your profile details and hopefully a local branch will get in touch. Since I got my car just as the events ended, I've learnt an awful lot from this forum. Don't just read replies to your own posts, read as much as you can - most of it will be double-dutch, but hopefully some of it will sink in. I think it's quite tricky to get to grips with a car that has been restored - you'll wont want to take it apart in case you make it worse. Luckily my truck has had a few faults that have allowed me to learn about the brakes, electrics, fuel pump - hang on, maybe it wasn't such a good buy after all.

I think the Pitmans book is good. It's very simple and was written so owners can do their own basic maintanence. Good Luck.

The Tech Tips Cd sold through Regalia is good - it shows how to do the basic routine maintenance from the comfort of your armchair before you face the garage

If I brought Minor parts indoors - to maintain them in my armchair - I would be in MEGA trouble !

You're meant to watch the Cd inside in the armchair and then go outside to "play" and get grubby with the Morris. I thought the grubbier you get the better you are at maintaining your Minor - perhaps I've got it all wrong
