Sorry to be negative, but its just the same old stuff relocated to a new venue. How on earth is this format going to stimulate new younger membership. Time to move away from the glorified 'village fete' mentality and bring the Nationals up to date and give it the promenance it deserves.

entirely agree
the clubs main rally needs to become more modern orientated
but i fear this will not happen, until the website is the main clubs avenue for debate and descisions
remeber dinasaurs became extinct

Some camp and some stay in local B&B's. You could always throw a sleeping bag in the back of the truck

and your own shower if you want a decent wash

Must agree to a point with current statements.
I think the Nationals have to show an interest to all potential as well as current owners and this would need more than a 2 day Village Fete.
But we also need to remember it is a 50 plus year old vehicle and Some of the Olde worlde stuff kind of fits with its character.

Maybe have it in the statly home grounds but upgrade some of the entertainment?

but the VW is also the same age, and their clun has some great national rallies

it is time the club moved on into the 21st cebtury if it wants to keep the members

i have been to many nationals, and i am afraid they all are the same just different places

we have clowns or have had, also owls and dog displays normally the same ones, shambles of a disco and so called entertainment and normally in the back yard of someones house

there are many venues suitable ie longleat, donnington ( we did have one there and it was very good), many p[laces in the midlands area and also places like criche , what about wales many places there

does not allways have to be a stately home,

i know its not easy to please everyone but we do need to get away from this glorified sunday fetes for the elderly
we need desperately to cater for the youngsters, for they are the ones that will be running the club later on

sorry but the nationals are just a bit on the boring butlins style of entertainment

Think this is pushing the boundaries of 'Olde worlde stuff kind of fits with its character.'
The cars maybe 50 odd , and I'm almost 50 but the only beneficial aspect of this sort of presentation at a National , is meeting friends,customers and new aquainancies.
What 16-25 year olds think is beyond me, when they see the vibrant shows for the Mini, Beetle, and Ford classics.
Now, if the MMOC tagged its National along with the Retro Cars show or shared the Mini National, then we might see something of interest.

showers and propper loos are a basic requirement when you see the number of people that camp,please please get it right this year,we are not near glastenbury so that cant be used as an excuse i will be there for the whole weekend this year

Yes, I've heard the loos on the campsite have not been good. Can I register a vote for decent facilities.. as I plan to camp (well, sleep under the tonneau at least)

So, all those that have been to these things before, a large beer tent, Cajun cook hut and bluegrass band is not likely then?

when i was involved in the Reliant club rallies we had a similar problem,(im 21 btw) where there was little of interest to a lot of us camping,ie bingo,stupid games,poor "entertainers" basically we would gather in a part of the site and have a nice evening drinking and chatting,i would reccomend it if the offical entertainment doesnt float your boat!
i will be going to this one this year,the first i have done,and intend to camp over the whole rally,although im sure the costs will take some getting used to,im used to free entry and £5 a nite to camp

Last year we had a large 'website' area within the camp site. I would imagine we'll have the same again this year. See you there

Don't worry Simon there will be plenty of people camping including me and others from the O&B branch. I hope they have the trailer loos near the tents like they had at the last Harewood rally.
A point about various locations mentioned. They might sound exotic but they cost a fortune to hire and the team have to stay within a budget which is based on the expected turnout, a vicious circle, good weather, good rally, good turnout next year. Bad weather etc.
There have been comments about how fantastic the VW rallies are etc. Can someone tell us what they actually do which makes them so good, it might give the organising team who have a thankless task some ideas.

They did, once, at Billing Aquadrome near Northampton in the mid 90s
Result - level site, good camping, plenty of showers, loos, washing places etc. Ithought it seemed to work very well. Only official entertainment I recall was the blindfolded driving competion, though thats probably banned by H&S and the venue is probably prohibitably expensive now. Must be a good reason why we never returned.

I'm 19 and I like village fetes Never been to the National before though, hoping to go this year. I'm also hoping to do the North Yorkshire Moors drive from Britain's Best Drives, as I'll be half way there anyway. Does anyone know when we will be getting entry forms?
