I've seen people mention these on this message board occasionally with something akin to reverence!

Are they really that much better than "ordinary", and if so, how much would you expect to pay for a stainless steel exhaust, on average?

One of the suppliers list one w/lifetime guarantee in there parts list for £87.99, plus VAT and shipping of course.

I have had one on my Series MM since 1991 and it is still in good condition. The cost does not seem to have increased either.

I bought a Minor with a stainless exhaust on it a coupel of years ago, and it had the receipt dated 1989 from a specialist. It looked tatty and rusty but was still sound and was still on the car when I sold it.
However I have heard of some people changing back to mild steel exhausts as they felt the stainless ones were too noisy.

I also paid about £90ish for mine about three years ago. I got on with mine.

Stainless Steel exhaust are the definitive way to go. We have had them fitted to a range of vehicles for the last 20 years or so, and to date, without any problem whatsoever. Remember its the quality of the item that is conducive to its longlivity. A lot of the 'off the shelf systems ' leave a lot to be desired, as most are being made out of Stainless Steel, which is imported from China or similar places and as less than 5 to 10% of genuine Stainless Steel within its make up, hence short term making for surface rust to appear and in certain cases, becoming brittle particularly around the joint sections. The only way ahead is to have a bespoke system made out of genuine British, YES British marine quality Stainless Steel, it is readily available and is competitively priced against a standard mild steel system. So there you have it guys.

i wanted a full stainless exhaust but i thought for the size i wanted it was to expensive so ive baught all the bends and saved around £120, just got to weld them my self
