Hi All
I wonder if anyone can help, I was getting no heat coming through so I decided to flush the system out, so I opened the tap on the block and emptied the radiator to find there was no water coming out of the tap on the block so I gave it a poke out and still nothing so I took the tap off and still nothing so I gave the hole in the block a poke out and got a load of dirt out of it but still no water so gave it a poke out with wire and still nothing so I have taken the head off and given the holes a good poke but still it doesnt run out. is there anything else I should be doing.
Thanks Bob

Bit 'premature' taking the head off! Normal procedure would be to use a powerful flushing chemical - even drain cleaner. And to keep flushing till it runs clear at all openings. Does sound pretty well gummed up - can only suggest you keep poking with wires - although complete engine strip and chemical clean could be one (expensive) option! I doubt this would be why yu had 'no heat' - i assume at the heater! Flush it through both directions anyway.

Using an anti-freeze with a rust inhibitor?

Did you empty the rad through the rubber hoses? Maybe the tap is just rusted up? Are the waterways in the block very badly rusted? If they are, not sure how to clean them out (or if you can?).

Normally I just backflush with the hosepipe, actually back, then forward etc. until the water runs clear. I never go near the tap thingy.

Going from flushing the cooling system to taking the head off is a bit extreme! :D Fair play though, it's a pain at this time of year when it's so cold.

If you emptied the radiator there wold be no water left in the block, or have I misread your posting?

Even with water pump hose disconnected - there would still be some water in the block - which is the reason for the block drain on early engines. Soon deleted in later models!
