Hi Guys, im repairing the rear axle on my van and as such have had to strip off the spring mountings ( to the axle not the hanger or shackles) and i am just wondering if anyone knows of what exactly I should have in the way of mounting plates etc. Obviously i know that the shoker one is standard but i seem to have different to a standard saloon and would love to put back what I should have . Cheers Allie[frame]

Hi Allie, welcome to the forum! Really like the picture of your van in the snow though I bet you wish it was warmer to be crawling underneath
The back shocks on a van are different to a saloon. They are telescopic and sit at 45 degree angle from the floor to the spring were as the saloon has the old type armstrong lever dampers that attach straight up to the body. I cant find a picture of the set up or parts at the moment but Im sure someone will come along with the info shortly.

thanx guys for your help, The photos great cos you seem to have the same set up as me so thats handy (Altho your shocker looks in better condition than mine, Thats what you get for living 500 yards from the sea i suppose, salt and metal ,a great combination eh ), Its very annoying that all parts diagrams only list the saloon in exploded diagram form so if anyone knows of one please let me know. I never understand why they leave the upper plate off of the van so that the u bolts don't locate as specificaly as the saloon but i supose there is a good reason for it.
The photo was actually this time last year when we were replacing chassis ends so this years weather is a doddle in comparison. Oh well here we go again. cheers again guys

As promised I found an exploded view of the van's rear suspension, if you could PM your e-mail address would be better as the pic is quite large, and if I resize it it will probably lose some of the detail.

It's quite a big file and show the whole chassis, fuel tank radiator and grille items. I had this lying on the computer as I found it quite useful when I was rebuilding the rear of my van[frame]

Hi Allie, welcome to the forum. I have no tech help to offer you but thought your van looked familar. I had a quick trawl through my digital photos and found one of your van I had taken when on holiday in Cornwall in 2005! Just happened to be driving through when I saw your van and the Traveller parked in front of it. Is the Traveller yours as well?[frame]

Yes it was mine aswell but unfortunately no longer , I don't know where it is now . I miss old Trev

. Thanx for the pic, we get so many taken by people from all over the world its nice to see one of them. In fact just yesterday whilst lying underneath re attatching my clutch linkage a car slid to a halt and took some pics ( complete with my legs sticking out) she didn't notice me untill she knelt down for the arty shot and i scared her to death i think. ( not where you expect to find someone i guess

)

they were great together but very hard work in the salt air and no garage so he had to go i'm affraid. If anyone else out there has any picks of my cars that would be great. The traveller was a great surf wagon , it looked the part with 2 long boards on the roof I sure miss him, maybe one day when the memory of trying to remember which one we did the brakes on last year and was it the van or the traveller that had a new fuel pump , we may get another one cos they are greatly practical cars. Oh well I can dream can't I
