Midget G Box Fitting
What do I need to know about putting a Midget box into a Minor - I guess I use the origianl Minor clutch linkage etc but is there anything else?

Re: Midget G Box Fitting
Is it 1098 Spridget box ? I dunno if you need to fit a 'mechanical' carrier arm for the carbon thrust - or if it's just same as the hydraulic one. Best compare side by side!

Re: Midget G Box Fitting
Yes its a 1098 box (or at least it came off the back of a 1098 engine)... The input shaft loks identicle so I am assuming that I fit the Minor thrust bearing and the Minor fork. It has the boss ready to receive the pivot/linkage....

Oh yes - shaft will be same - it's just a matter of making sure Minor clutch release bits are used. Is the 'fork' any different to the Minor fork ?

Re: Midget G Box Fitting
There was no fork or linkage with the box - I was planning to fit the Minor ones and hoping they would "fit"....

Re: Midget G Box Fitting
You may have to swap the gearbox front plates over. The Midget box uses a hydraulic clutch with the linkage on the other side. You will also have to swap the rubber mountings.

Ahhh - didn't realise hydraulic was on other side - never worked with one you see! Learn something new every day.

1275 spridget box went straight into my brothers car without swapping anything on the box itself over.

I believe you only need change the front plate (through which the input shaft goes), if you are the proud owner of a LHD car and want to retain the mechanical clutch linkage.

Re: Midget G Box Fitting
I'll get the 2 boxes side by side at the weekend as it didn't look that much different (from memory). Does it have to be a 1098 clutch fork if I am using a 948 clutch.....?

Re: Midget G Box Fitting
I used a 1098 fork and thrust bearing on a diaphram clutch which is about the same size as a 948 clutch so it should work.

Re: Midget G Box Fitting
I used a 948 fork and the Midget roller bearing. Works a treat.

Re: Midget G Box Fitting
The spridgets never had a 'roller bearing' as standard - but there are aftermarket kits - equally suitable for Spridget and Minor.

Re: Midget G Box Fitting
Is the roller bearing the one sold by Birmingham MMC? And if so have you seen the price of them recently?
