Boot lid repair advice.

Post by iandromiskin »

Does anyone have any advice on how to properly repair the bottom of the boot lid with the supplied repair panel ? Ie. How and where do you cut the original rusty bits off to fit the repair properly as once cut... thats it. Also do you have to cut a notch in the repair panal to accomodate the boot handle raised section. If anyone has any advice or even better, some pictures, i'd appriciate it. (I also have to repair the bottom section of the front wing if anyone has any advice there too)

I'm sure someone will be along soon with bootlid repairing pics. There was a thread a while back about repairing front wings and a few photos showing various ways of doing it:

I'd advise the use of C. Wares bood lid repair kit, as the Hadrian one is a dreadful shape, too flat and long. The check you need to make is that the inner and outer panels fit together flush (one inside the other). I'd also say use as much of the existing boot lid as possible and cut down and re swage the lid rather than the repair panel, this will remove the problem of water getting into the repair flange. If you need to use the full height of the repair panel then cut out the area around the handle boss, it will make shaping the lid much easier
Tack the repair into place and then replace boot lid to check for the correct shape and shut gaps. I'll try and find some pics if it will help. Here's one of the finish welded article dipped and ecoated, ready for a skim of filler and paintwork.
