Engine info

Hi,
First time posting, so please forgive any mistakes!
I have a 1957 948cc minor 1000, and I am taking the engine out to change the clutch and tidy up the engine bay. The engine I have has a red sump and fan, and the block is painted in a pale green colour. There is no engine id plate on the left of the water pump and on the other side of the block it is cast 950 with 26118 or 2011B further along the block it says 2A799 VC or VG, RMO beneath that and 210877 beneath that. Does anyone know what all this means?? :o I guess that this is'nt the original engine, most Minors I have seen have a bronze green block, black sump and yellow fan blade.
Any help to cure my curiosity is most welcome!!

The block is a 948cc so is the original size. The engine number should be on a plate rivetted to the engine block next to the dynamo, if you look carefully you should find the rivet holes. The engine may well have been swapped or rebuilt several times in its life, you could get an idea by checking the piston and bearing sizes.

Thanks for the info, the rivet holes are there but no id plate. Seeing as the engine and box are out I was going to freshen it up a bit with a coat of paint. I think if I start pulling it apart looking at pistons etc it may be off the road longer than I would want! I have noticed that the A series used by Austin in the midgets and sprites are painted red. Maybe I have an Austin sump and fan?? Now do I stick to the paint scheme thats on there now or change it? That is the question!
