hi can someone tell me how to wire up a alternator to a fusebox please and if you have a alternator conversion can you still use the starting handle.

Of course you can use the handle - provided you have the starter dog in the front pulley.
Wiring up is easy - remove the wires from D and F on the regulator - just leave the regulator in place. Run a new heavy duty cable form the battery +ve (car must be -ve earth) to the large terminal on the alternator. You 'could' take this from the A terminal on the regulator - but it's better to go directly to the main feed - on the starter solenoid. Then you need to find the wire from the IGN light in the speedo - it WAS the brown-yellow wire going to the D terminal on the regulator - take it off there - and extend it to the small terminal on the alternator - you can use the original brown/yellow wire that was going to the large terminal on the dynamo - just change the end fitting to suit . See Barry's excellent wiring diagram at the head of this section - print off a copy and keep it in the car!

i want to take the regulator off the car as i just want the alternator running of the fusebox and also my series II dosent have coulou coded wires

It's far easier to just leave the regulator in place - but you can replace it with a strip of 'choc-block' - although you will then have to figure out the various connections behind the scenes. Not worth it - my advice (which you usually ignore) - leave the regulator in place! Colour coding not important -just take the wires from the terminals as I describe and connect them up!

this one doesnt have a voltage regulator it just has a fusebox[frame][/frame]

So - did it not have a dynamo ??? Or did it already have an alternator ??

it already had a alternator and thats what i want to do with mine as i didnt want a regulator on mine

Ahh - getting it now -I thought this was another car you were working on. I now realise you were using it's picture as an 'example' !! Well - it is saturday night - and I've been trying to finish off a very nice bottle of Port...........

so how do i get rid of the regulator box like were do i put the lights etc

As replied in PM -join A and A1 wires together - I'm not sure Barry's diagram is quite correct in this area - but no matter since you are joing them all up anyway!

I've got no issue with you removing the regulator Josh, but I am interested in why you would want to do it? Isn't it critical in ensuring various electrical components operate accurately?

You can remove the reg, and everything will still work fine
wires need to be connected right though

not really, but i suppose with the alternator and the reg box not doing anything then may as well have a clean looking bulkhead

hmmm, well if the reg is redundant when an alternator is fitted it makes sense. My reg looks very tatty and I intend to fit a alternator soon so it might be worth ditching it, I shall think on. Cheers au

I was mainly suggesting leaving the reg in place - to make the wiring changes simple. But I have since talked Josh through the wiring changes (not that many really) to remove the reg. I think he wants to sell it!
