another splitscreen fitting question

Post by tortron »

just about to put my front screens in (have all the necessary rubbers, glass, bolts etc)
just wondering if someone could confirm which notch on the rubber goes where (i.e. glass, body frame, chrome finisher)
I take it the larger lipped side goes on the inside like the original.

To do it the way morris did,use a dummy centre cut short(Since it goes in from the inside of the car and its too long to go through the frame)assemble all the glass dummy outer centre inner centre with all the seals and then fit it from the inside as one unit ,useing sealant on the frame and string round the rubber. Once fitted then the chrome strip is fitted from the outside. It can't be fitted from the outside since the inner rubber flange is too large to go over the body work.WEll thats the way they say to do it,but do a search there are other, and in my experience, having done it three times, better ways, the best being the straps method as allready posted several times. Good luck with it you'll need it :D

Yeah - but he wants to fit his windscreen not spend the entire weekend down the A & E Dept! fixing his broken toe  Pace yourself and have a bottle of water to hand if it's hot.

well i got it in about a week ago

took roughly 7 hours, 6 of those getting the technique down and then about an hour later i had them strapped in.
They were then left 24 hours, before i put the centre in

i maintained a bit of pressure on the screen as the rubber tended to work against me and rolled her out into the sun for the day.
By the end of the day the rubber had settled and it fits great

All you have to do now is aim a hosepipe at it and see if it leaks :-?
