having recently been bitten by the convertable bug yet not wanting to deviate from moggys , how easy is it to convert one from a standard 2 door saloon to a nice drop top? i know that there are kits from bull motif, but it would be nice to know the complexitys before shelling out many pounds.
i am handy (ish) with a welder and am kinda hoping it involves more fettling than hard engineering

The shell obviously has to be in good condition - and you must strengthen it before you cut the roof off. I would put it very much in the 'hard engineering' class rather than 'fettling'.

Dpends onthe Land Rover and what engine. I get nearer 30mpg from mine, but they are probably the cheapest way to having a convertible! I got my first one down to 6 loosish bolts to remove the truckcab, split the top from the cab back and stow it in the load bay. It was faster than unbuckling the canvas tilt!
Then I got a Minor convertible - hood down in moments and the lid has stayed on the Land Rover since then!
