My Minor pick up is in need of a full engine rebuild some time this year and I have been considering the possibility of an engine swap.

As a works van I have a 1999 1.3 Suzuki Carry Van which is rear wheel drive and has a five speed box, does anyone know if any one has successfully completed this transplant as this engine really does rev well and gives the Carry Van superb acceleration.

Anything is possible and I'm sure I've heard this engine / box mentioned before somewhere. The beaty of a Minor is the amount of room you have to fit the engine into so if you are OK with making mounts etc it should be straight forward enough to do.

I asked exactly the same question a long time ago now but I dont recall ever seeing one actually fitted.
I think the thread just petered out.
My logic was - if you can fit the carry engine you can fit the mighty Swift GTi engine.
(Obv on the carry box and clutch arrangement)

I've heard of folk putting the Swift lump into SuperCarry vans (the old 1litre version of the carry) so I was thinking it should be possible. Just needs someone to try it.
I whimped out and fitted a midget lump because its a job an idiot could do easily without any stress.

Won't the 'works' notice their van has lost it's engine ?

IN this months Practical Performance Car someone put a swift GTI engine into a Suzuki SJ and managed to keep the 4wd arrangement so I am sure with a bit of parts swapping you could fit this engine into a minor.

ive mentioned the 1300 16valve swift gti before on various sites,as ive already used them in a nova rally car. light weight and bomb proof.

One possible hurdle to overcome may be the placement of the distributor on the Swift motor - it comes out the back of the head. It may be right at the place where the Morris bulkhead cross member wants to be. I have a dim recollection of a right angle fitting used in Swift to SJ/Jimny conversions. There was also a water outlet in this area too.
I cant find the photo or the link, it was a Mini site, but I have seen a photo of a Swift motor overlaid onto an A series. They were very similar dimensions, ignoring the bits sticking out, with the Swift motor being mostly just a bit taller.

A solution to the dizzy popping out of the back of the head is to convert to an engine management system with a coil pack.

Yes, with a lot more things on it to go wrong.

Horrible exhaust manifold -can't imagine that's efficient!
