Boot Rack

Went to pick up the boot rack today off mmjosh. Although it would have been cheaper to post it I was bored and wanted to test the new car so I drove the 266 miles there and back, passing Solihull (I did wave to Lou and Jon as I passed

). The car went really well, very confident now that we will get to the national this year

.
Well anyway I got the rack but I'm not sure how to fit it
So does anyone have any pictures of a bootrack fitted to a car as reference for when I fit it?
Also what is the capacity of the petrol tank so I can calculate mpg?

A standard 1098 fuel tank holds 6.5 gallons.

You can't trust the gauge to give an accurate reading. It is only an indication. The way to check (assuming your speedo is reading correct) is to fill the tank. Note down the "start" mileage. Drive until tank reads empty then fill up again. The amount you put in is the actual amount used and you know how far you have travelled from the odo reading. Keep doing this with every tank full and you'll get an accurate figure of varying use over a period of time.

When fitting the 2 metal clamps for the boot rack it saves your paint if you make 2 squares of rubber to slip between them and the paint. wrap them around the edge of the boot before you fit the clamps

Did see you on the M42 but was in the Volvo so you wouldn't have seen us. Glad the journey went well. Good practise for Harewood!

The fitting kit comes with some plastic protectors but they are not clearly seen in my photos due to their size. If you save the pic and zoom in you should see them.....

In modern money you can squeeze about 30ltrs into a 1098 tank. Don't forget the spare can of petrol if you are going to run the tank dry

I tried to fit to bootrack today but with no success - it stopped the boot from shutting.
Looks like there is not a big enough gap around the boot lid for the bracket to sit in and allow the lid to shut. Any ideas?

I was being very careful not to do that, it didn't want to go so I didn't push it.

Is it just one side the gap is too small or both - I had to very carefully centre the boot lid on the upper hinges to get equal both sides for clearance....

you may need to adjust the latch if moving the boot lid
they also come with a top strap as well

I had a similar problem when fitting a boot rack to our 1960 convertible. I actually had to file down the metal clamps and had to use the rack without the plastic protectors. I remember now I also had to adjust the boot lock! As using the rack was essential for an MOT trip to France, I had to persevere with these mods and also chip the paint. However, I have not used the rack since.
Best of luck!

Tried fitting the rack again on the weekend and the clamps wont fit as they are
My friend suggested drilling the boot, which in one way will look smarter but I don't want to start doing things like that to the car as it's in very good condition. The other option is getting a spare boot, drill and fit the boot rack to it and swap boots over to go to shows.
I might try filing them down, I just don't want to weaken the brackets and loose the boot rack on the road somewhere
