Morris Minor Calendar

Post by agwozencroft »

Hi Folks, I know some people will say...go on then you do it...but I do not have the photos. Is it a good idea that in Regalia you could obtain a MORRIS MINOR CALENDAR perhaps next year?

Re: Morris Minor Calender

The Club published one a few years ago, and various branches have produced their own at times. The Custom & Modified register were talking about producing one for last year but I don't know if it ever got produced?

I'm sure a club calendar would sell well. Regaliaqueen will be best placed to comment on whether it's a viable option for next year but I suppose it depends on the costs of producing one.

I think the last one done by the national club was for the 60'th anniversary.
I heard some details during it's make-up from Ray Newell about the lengths they were going to, and the efforts made to get a sensible publishing cost... and they started about 2 years in advance!

I have really appreciated the club calendars over the years, although eventually it comes to a decision on whether it's financially worth it or not. I'm hoping there'll be one for the 65'th...

Sorry folks it proved too costly to produce and still make a profit for the Club

Thanks for all you replies, being new to the Club I don't know the long history of it, a pity that the calendar didn't make a profit, I guessed that perhaps it must had been tried before.

You could always make your own. Microsoft Publisher is great for things like that. All you need is twelve pictures of Minors. Here are two for starters!!

This is part of one I did for the IMMOC. Our version is two A4 pages in landscape (length ways), with a ring binder between, with this selection of pictures from various car shows (2009) that we took part in and a short description. The second page is the calander. Though I'm encountering your problem of being able to print it economically.

I have a few 'arty' photos I could send if the calendar is done. See the centre spread in Nov/Dec '09 version of Minor Matters :)

I am glad there is enthusiasm for a calendar, pictures do have an important role to play within the club but if it is not a commercial proposition...that's it as I suppose it would be mainly members that would buy it. How about a compact free issue with the December magazine is this out of the question?

The Minor Monthly have a 2010 calendar. There's some great models in there. They cost £10. but well worth it.

Hi Blaketon. the maroon traveller you posted above is one of Dave Jones's Morris's. Are you related to him?

He was a regular on the Valley Sports & Classic Cars annual "Tour" (Although I knew him and his car by sight, I didn't know that was his name; I mixed him up with someone else in the entry list!! ) and that was taken on the first event in 2006. I seem to recall, in 2008, his car was the one chosen by one of the local councillors, who attended the event, as the one she'd most like to take home.

If there was a calendar made I'd like this picture in there, admittedly it's a picture I took of my car at the time

Nice Brough Superior lurking in the background of that pic!

I always thought there was good calendar material in the series of photos posted on the now sadly disused photo competition thread. I appreciate that that topic may have run its course and it was getting increasingly difficult to come up with new subjects but it would have made a good basis for a 'website calendar'.
cheers

Glad I stirred up some conversation and some old memories of Club members with this topic. Nice to see the photos, there are some good pictures around it seems.

Brough Superior that's a bike isn't it, or did they make cars too?

Edit: yes, I see they did - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brough_Superior
