Will a cylinder head intended for injection be suitable for my 1098 moggy?
Its hard to find any info about these SPI and TPI types, but as far as i can tell the cylinder heads are pretty standard. Are they interchangable?

It would probably be one from a late Mini, which would be a 1.3... be careful about SPi Metros - they're K-series engines, and not A, but that's fairly obvious.
I'd wondered if anyone had fitted FI t a standard moggy engine... over to you guys!

yeah, the 1275 Cooper S.
Is it just a standard 12G940?

Wouldn't the head be the same? It's usually the manifold thats different between carb & injection engines of the same type.

i think they are they same.
Although im thinking they are like the later Metro heads without the bypass hose.
This is what i bought....
What kind of thermostat housing do i need for this? and are they roller tip rockers?

The rockers look like the standard 1.3 A+ steel rockers (Mini, Ital etc)

Looks very similar to the MG metro head I bought recently- do you know the age of the vehicle? If it was injection, does that mean it is unleaded?

I should say so, yes. Although I don't know for sure, but it does make sense as I can't see them running an injected 4 star car

So it's still a maybe - Some companies like triumph started injection before unleaded was dreampt up...

Yes but the A-series was quite late in that respect. The single point injection did not appear until virtually every other car was injected!
But, it's still a maybe.

I purchased a 1994 mini 1275cc head and that was unleaded if its any help the model was a British Open Classic and was pre cat and injection but still retained the bypass outlet.

yeah, its from a 1996 Cooper SPI. I paid £40 for it in the end. It is unleaded. It was only recently removed from a running engine also.
How easy would it be to drill and tap the bypass hose outlet? Then just screw in the attachment for the hose.

Is the hole where the heater valve goes also drilled out as yours looks blanked off.
Has the bypass position got a screw in blank plug or is it just plain, I would have thought the easiest solution if they are blanked off would be to get the local mini specialist to do it, I dont think it would cost much.

i haven't actually received the head yet, so all i can tell is from the photo.
I found this on Minispares website though...
To allow water to circulate prior to the thermostat opening in the absence of a by-pass hose (Metros use a sandwich plate under the thermostat housing) drill 6 1/8” holes around the thermostat’s perimeter.
So is this saying to drill holes in the thermostat itself? So this would mean that the heater could be turned off.
Minispares sell the water pump blanking plugs for £5 which seems a bit steep.

Which push rods should i use for this head on a 1098 block?
It came with 7 still attached. But they dont clear the casting to be pulled out from below. Does this mean i'll have to have the rocker assembly off to get them out?
Apparently there are two types of push rods..
There are two lengths; 2A14 for small bore (850-1100cc) and AEG314 for 1275cc.
So should i buy one AEG314 or use the existing ones from my old head?
