Old English White wheels - painting of...

Whilst my wheels are not too bad, there's a slight hint of rust round the rims on a couple of them...

I know the best option is to have them done professionally, but if I simply wanted to freshen them up (ie: a rub down and paint, etc) what is the best paint to use (bearing in mind I would prefer to do them off the car, using a brush - or is this a bad idea!

I stripped one down completely, primed and sprayed last year, but a horrid job and the others really aren't bad enough to warrant that line of attack... nor can I face it!

Hi, I have in my time restored wheels back to all levels. For a quick cosmetic touch up, I would lightly sand if not to rusty (bubbles) and apply with a spray can when a bit warmer. A can will do four wheels twice. You can brush but the finish is not the same. However if the wheel surface is quite bumpy, brushing will not matter, just difficulty getting oe white in brushing paint. If they are quite rusty and bubbling, sand them down and apply a primer first, then spray the old english white.

I think someone on here recommended mixing pure white gloss with magnolia 50/50 and this is very close to OE white apparantly. I was planning to do this next spring and use a good quality gloss paint like Leyland or similar

Yes - Dulux gloss - I found Magnolia was near enough, but as above -maybe 50/50 mix with white will be closer. It's hard wearing - and brushes on nicely.

when i sprayed my wheels i found that someone had slapped dulux paint on them it just flakes off after a while. so if they get that bad might just be worth while to sand, mask, prime and spray them it will last a whole lot longer. and it only took an afternoon. swopping the wheels round
in my opinion the wheels stand out on any car

The Dulux sticks just fine - if the undersurface is well prepared. Wire brush in drill works well - wear goggles.

if you look on page two of on the discussion ( link below ) you will see some picks I took of my wheels and I used a 50 : 50 mix

I am in the process of doing some standard moggy wheels using dulux again.. I have lots of magnolia paint left!
