Ive just bought my first car a 1969 morris minor 1000 which i adore!!! does anyone know if i can have a radio in this?? <br><br>

Welcome to the forum! You can have anything you want - it's your car (and v nice looking too!). Whether you will be able to hear the wireless at speed is another matter altogether!

Good sound deadening is the key to 'hearing' a good stereo.
Positioning of speakers is also essential, but rather depends on what your requirements are.
Byt to answer your question, yes you can fit a stereo, I'll second Roy's comment , the car looks a good'un

Be hard pushed to get just a radio nowadays without tape/cd player anyway. Unless an old radio is being fitted.

Think the're available from The Vintage Wireless Company and can come with a gizmo to attach to your i-pod hidden in the glovelocker. I have had various radios and seperate tape players in years gone by +ve earth but I never ever saw a combined unit

If you're fitting a 'modern' radio, whether it has a CD/Tape player or not, it will be negative earthed.

Charley - are you looking to fit a 'period' style radio or a 'modern' one? If looking for an older style one see this thread here, which also has a link to show you how to change the polarity of your car if you need to:

Please note this is not correct - Modern radio's stereo's, CD players etc all require a NEGATIVE earth or you will damage them...

Oops, my mistake - it's correct on my other post. Now corrected.

I thought it was all modern stereos whether they included cd or tape players or not but I wasn't sure so didn't like to argue

I guess you could have a "special" built as positive earth but certainly all the "off the shelf" stuff these days is neg earth...

I think maybe Bill was refering to the "wireless" as been an antique piece of equipment ;-)

That's what I took from the comment! Remembering the days of my Rover P4 with real HMV "Wireless"- gauranteed to flatten the battery in an hour if you didn't keep the engine running at a good rate! Worked well as an auxillary heater, though!

CHARLEY- If your question was more along the lines of "have I missed a blanking plate that a radio would fit in"? - no! You make a bracket to hold it under the dashboard (to the right of the steering wheel usually) or cut a hole in one of the glove box lids, if fitted!

They are custom made to your spec (knobs, logos, surrounds etc) and also have connections for using with ipods, the output is 4x50w, so comparable to a standard modern cd player/radio.
I reckon it could be a really nice accessory for a Morris... one to add to my massive and expensive todo list!

I asked the vintage wireless company for a quote on a period radio and they came back with the figures of £295 and £395 to allow for fm which even with a guarantee I found a tadge to expensive. Try ebay type in radiomobile and it will give you various radios with switchable - + earths, like the guys said you will probably need a positive earth. Have a look at item number 160393006076 this one looks the part but allows you to connect an ipod and its got a switchable earth. I suppose pye would of been another period radio perhaps people on here can come up with some names from that era then you ill get a better choice. Nice car

Philips is another. Whether or not you want a period looking item, still much more likely to find a negative earth one. Swapping car polarity is REALLY easy!
