what is the best stuff to fix a small leak? and best way to do it? thanks

New screen rubber!

New rubbers don't seem to be as good as original ones so a new rubber might cause you more leaks! If it is only a small area it is leaking from you could try some mastic sealant, however, if it is the screen frame that has rusted out which is causing the leak you will have to remove the screen to fix the rust in the frame and then refit it. Try and keep the old seal if original and in good condition....

Hmm -well - as above - maybe they are not the best these days. Did you put a bed of mastic in when you fitted it ? Also - is it leaking between rubber and steel - or glass and rubber ?

yesterday i stripped out the interior. when i took out the carpets noticed that there was a small damp patch. poured some water over the rear screen and watched, a very small bead of water formed in the corner, then ran off the rubber to the parcel shelf then to floor. this took at least 10mins to happen.

its a tiny leak between rubber+glass. the previous owner renewed all rubbers etc. could i just put sum mastic between glass and rubber from the inside after drying said area? thanks

You'll loose nothing by trying but remember, just because it leaks "out" of the bottom doesn't mean the water is getting "in" at the bottom - Water will always run to the lowest point so a thin bead of mastic all around would be safest bet.....

I had a leak very similar to yours, from a new professionally fitted rubber. It was fitted with no mastic, as I was told was the way to do it, and that the leak would disappear as the window "settled into place". The leak was actually from 2 places, one glass/rubber and the other rubber/body.
Talking to another installer with a lot of experience was instructive. He said that the only way to stop the leak would be to put a full bead of mastic between glass and rubber and also between the rubber and the body. The reason for not doing it was, in his view, that it made his life harder if the glass ever had to come out.
He was right, the leaks are no more. I had to do the front screen the same way to cure a leak there too. It was not a slow leak but more like 2-3 litres overnight.
If you do mastic the gaps, warmth is your friend. I can't suggest much for the weather but warming the mastic in a bucket of warm to hot water made using it much easier.
