Klaxon Horn

I'm planning to fit a klaxon horn to my 1970 Traveller, can anyone tell me if this will be legal as the only horn or do I have to fit it as an addition to the standard horn?
Apologies if this question has been covered elsewhere recently.
Thanks,
Mark

Can't see why you'd want a klaxon on a Minor, but each to his own...
One tone? What about the high- and low-tone windtone horns that were often fitted in the 60's? They were often both fitted - one of each, I'm sure...

I have twin tone horns on my MGB. They both sound at the same time so they are fine. The tune-playing ones (air-horn types) I'm not sure about. But just replace them at MOT time with a normal one and it will be fine!

The ones that play "Oh Susannah" and "La Cucaracha" are rightly outlawed, and can only be fitted for show use &c. Just the same as certain other modifications that seem to find their way onto road-going cars... like 500w headlamps...

Well, no... how many million times have I been told to stop exaggerating... &c.
I think I read somewhere that headlights rated over 100w are illegal... if the Saxo boys got hold of a set of 500w lamps, I reckon they'd be everywhere! (Says he, with his halogen tail lights...)

im pretty sure vehicles built pre 1973/4 are allowed to wear multi tone horns legally. Icant remember the exact date but when i had my first moggie i fitted all the extras like multi tone horns a CB radio and one day got pulled over by the law and he only asked me not to sound it as often as i was

Ha ha!

Yes my mate with a '71 Mini used to do the same with his dixie horns and his VERY wide wheels which stuck out of the arch a fair bit. The car was V reg so he used to get pulled up frequently but the law would back off a bit when he produced his documents showing the '71 date. He also ended up fitting police horns to that car as well! (god only knows where he got THEM from).

If you are thinking of doing this merely to get a louder sound
then have a listen to the single horns fitted to the earlier
Minors( mine is 1957). Very distinctive and will blow your ears
off at fifty yards!

Phyllis ('62) doesn't have a windtone horn - just a round button thing, like lots of prewar cars... You can't use it in anger, either - it's the automotive equivalent of "I'm sorry, you've cut me up, I really shouldn't be in your way" only without the sarcasm!
Funny really, 'cos the horn on our Metro dislodges masonry. Scares me when I have occasion to "warn others of my presence"...

You can fit musical air-horns and keep them on your car for MOTs as long as you have a standard style horn which is for road use. All you then need is a switch in the cab or such to switch between them.

All the horns on our family's cars are quite manly sounding with the exception of my dad's Civic. It is quite high pitched and sounds like "I'll tell my mum....." which is laughable if you try to use it in anger!!!! What makes it even more amusing is that my dad is a bit of a bruiser!!

makes me laugh anyway (but a lot does nowadays......)

Yes I thought that about mine last night

Mine sounded more like Harry Enfield sneering 'ooh - Ya Don't wanna do it like that..'
Someone had just pulled on to the M6 in the dark towing a car on a long rope that had no lights - No wonder he did it in the dark!! probably thought he wouldn't get spotted...

The guy who came through the roadworks in an immense campervan at 70 mph in the fast lane (ignoring the maximum 6'6" signs) hence not fitting in his lane and nearly took my mirror off! - He didn't get the horn - he was too big and I didn't want tyre marks over my bonnet
