Slowing down going up hill
Had the car out for a fun today and it slowed down going up hill, doesnt matter if its a steep hill or not, also engine revs high on idle.Have not had the car out much since replacing the crank.

The brass nut under the carb is the mixture adjustment. If the engine is running smoothly then do not touch it. Unscrew the plastic top on the carb and check that there is oil inside. If not then top up with a light oil such as 3 in 1.
There is a vertical tickover speed adjusting screw on the side of the carb, screw it upwards slightly and it will slow the engine revs. The other adjusting screw sets the engine speed with the choke out. It should be adjusted so that it is just touching the cam.
If the car is slowing down more than usual on hills then it could be that the timing is out. Have you touched the distributor?

If the timing was 180 out then the engine would not run, it would splutter and backfire. If the accelerator cable was too tight then it would keep the tickover revs too high. There needs to be a little bit of slack in the cable.
When you have sorted the tickover then test run it up the hill and if it is still slow then check the points gap, mark the position of the carb, set the vernier adjuster to midway, loosen the clamp and turn the distributor slowly until you have the fastest tickover. Tighten the clamp and you should be able to get any fine adjustment on the vernier

The timing WAS 180 degress out - but swapping the leads around sorted that. However - there is the possibility that the cam timing was not put back completely correctly - ie the dots were maybe not correctly aligned ? That would certainly affect the running of the engine - but let's assume it's all ok for now - and try everything else first! If cable too tight - then the throttle may not be able to fall back to the correct idle position - there needs to be a tiny bit of slack at idle.

Re: Slowing down going up hill
Loosened the Dizzy clamp and turned the dizzy a bit, the engine reved faster(as mentioned before)and the car pulls and pulls up hill, its like a new car,the difference in the power between now and the last time I took her out is like day and night,(Cant believe the difference in power),
I now need to get the Air and Fuel mix sorted now,
Any suggestions on how to get it just right?
Cheers Mark
