Pa'h!
I could offer a service much much cheaper than that if I went into buisness!
Anyone on here put that ad up??? Seems a little much for a mobile service with no premases etc...

It is something I have been considering doing if/when I go into semi retirement - I don't even need a van to use as I could be mobile in the Traveller

I wonder if he has insurance, and public liability , very much doubt it, but £25 ph is not bad if it includes his travel to you, fuel etc., most proper garages are charging double this
Rich how about part time over in Napton, nice and warm , tea ,coffee, biscuits, etc.

" Rich how about part time over in Napton, nice and warm , tea ,coffee, biscuits, etc. " - Sounds like Heaven.........
It's not clear from the Add - is he mobile in a Minor, servicing any cars - or does he move around - servicing Minors ? If he 'only' charges £25/hr - how come a Minor service - which should only take about 1 hour - costs £140 ?? Surely not £115 for parts!

If you read the ad again, it says 'full service' and includes a list of standard replacement parts, but does not say that is all that is done.
A full service should take longer than an hour, although I'm sure Roy can have each wheel off + drum off to inspect the brakes prior to readjusting and refitting the drum and torquing the nuts in less than 5 mins a corner, I can't. ;-)
But yes - a minor (engine) service is not a lot to do.

Prob more like £40 on bits inc oil, and four hours to come to you, do the work and get back again, which dosn't sound too bad really, though I'd check that it really is a 'full' service.

I saw this ad on ebay, and as my car needed a service I gave him a call as he is local to me. He turned up in a morris minor van!
Fully kitted out engine lift full tool kit even a generator welder! He had me take the car out to warm the oil up!, He then jacked the car up put it on axle stands, took all the wheels off, drained all of the oil out of the engine, gear box and axle, while this was draining he changed the condensor points etc, he oiled and greased all pivet point hinges etc.
I can honestly say he done a very good job, he even told me to join this site as it was a good place to find bits and bobs for my minor!
I have had my minor for a few years and last year I had it serviced at my local morris minor garage which cost me alot more!
I also know he is not a member of this site. But i will inform him he is being talked about!

Quote from the bottom of the ad:
" I have worked for a well known Morris Minor restorer but I left as I was not happy with the way they worked"
I wonder if we are aware of whom this could be?
Phil.

Hmmm - now that's a difficult one to guess!
And yes Ray -with trolley jacks and pneumatic nut gun - wheels/drums etc can easily be off in 5 minutes!

He was doing my car for nearly 3hours, but that was my fault as i was chatting a bit to much! But not about the morris!
I was chatting to him about automating my gates, thats something else he does!
What should it cost to have a full service?

Well - certainly no need for it to take 3 hours - unless he stripped and rebuilt all the brakes, and changed the head gasket too! But it does seem he has done a good job for you - so if you are pleased with it - that's all that matters! I discount the comment about 'time taken to travel to you' - although that may be important to him - it would not be my concern! Up to him to set out a 'route' for each day that takes him round his customers and minimises his travelling time.
Good enterprise - and like all good businesses - I'm sure word will soon spread if he does a good job at a fair price.

The 3hours was my fault as I mentioned, too much chatting on my part!
I think his price for a service is very good, I have been looking back through my cars histoty, covering the last ten years
It has had alot of money spent on it! and has been serviced every year, The lowest service cost until now has been £215
and that was ten years ago! at a minor specalist in london , though that did include an exhaust manifold clamp clamp!

Well we're going to give him a go next month, mainly out of curiosity but mostly because its too cold for me to do anything myself (Wimp) !! I think it sounds like someone who obviously knows what he's doing and enjoying his new found independence. We'll keep you posted......

How is this for service!
After having my car serviced a couple of weeks ago I decided to go on one of my road trips!
Well we set out early Saturday morning to Weymouth taking our time stopping a few times on the way, the car running lovely.
We stayed in a nice b&b for the night and headed home yesterday morning, well as we trundled back up the A37 a lorry carrying scrap travelling in the opposite direction lost a bit of his load! A push bike to be exact, well minus its wheels!
Before I could react it hit the front of the car! I stopped as quickly as I could. The front forks of the bike had gone straight through the front off the car and the radiator had snapped the fan belt and bent the fan! Bugger!
I then checked to see if the wife was ok! And she looked fine!
Now I do have AA cover, but when I had my car serviced the chap who did it did say if I had any problems to give him a call.
So I did, I told him what had happened and he listened the phone went quiet! He said give me an hour or so and I will be with you.
Just over the hour and he turns up in the roughest looking minor I have ever seen! I asked where the van was, He said it needs a new radiator fan belt and fan!
That’s right he had taken the parts of his own Morris for mine, I asked him why not take them of this old car he had turnt up in? He said he had only just put a new rad in his van so new it to be good, I could not argue with that, anyway about half an hour later we were on our way again.
The car is going to need a new front grill and some scratches sorting but apart from that it’s ok.
But what service!

Extraordinary ! Looking forward to meeting him sometime in February when he services ours. It's stories like this that restores a persons faith in tradesmen. Thanks for posting Mike. Cheers.
