A short engine is a rebuilt engine block. A long engine is a rebuilt block and head (which should be unleaded) and should also include the sump.

The description of a "short" engine generally means that it is the basic engine block without "ancillaries" attached. e.g no starter motor, distributer, coil, carb, manifolds, etc.
When buying such, you/ the garage will remove all the bits from the old engine to attach them to the new/ reconditioned short engine.

Yes - just basic block with pistons/rods/crank/timing cover (and timing gears) should be included - or at least - they used to be!

Dont feel a fool. Short or tall would be more appropriate phrases.

A "true " fool would not ask sensible questions.
None of us knows ALL the answers to ALL the questions.
If you don't ask questions...you learn very little !!
Happy New Year to you.
