I have been given a little used Nokia 6300 phone locked to Orange.
Have looked on the web but this model does seem a bit difficult to unlock
Any advice re unlocking? I have a monthly contract with O2 and Orange reception is not brilliant in this area
It is legal to unlock a phone see this link:

Thanks all

Hang on a sec, I have some unlocking software - I will see if I can find it and the instructions!

Thanks for replies, took phone to local shop, said that there was software built in that only orange can unlock
Moggy, I've tried that but it doesn't work.
Matt, it would be very helpful if you could send me the software and instructions...............

I've never come across this before with Nokia's (although it doesn't suprise me with Orange

)
Have you tried ringing Orange customer services (that statement in itself is quite funny) and asking them for the code?

This site has quite a few unlocking codes:
http://www.trycktill.com/eng/unlock_swe.asp
Doesn't have 6300 but has 6310 which might work. You'll need to scroll down & click the appropriate flag to get the right language

Unlocking phones are legal now.You can unlock your phone easily from Orange Network using unlock code.Unlock code is the best and safest way to unlock phone.You can get the unlock code for your phone from
Mobile-Unlocker.com here you need to specify your country,IMEI number of your phone.then they deliver unlock code to you through mail with unlocking instructions.

Given the change in public attitudes toward this practice I would even suggest taking it to an Orange store and asking them to unlock it. I've heard a few stories of people doing the same with other operators and them doing it Free Of Charge as a goodwill gesture.
The days or locking down and even 'branding' phones are long gone now - or at least should be! I remember unlocking my 3310 some years ago and being amazed at the amount of menus Orange simply 'turned off' for no good reason.
