I think i need a new fuel pump,i've took it off and i am going to clean it is paraffin the best thing or could i use something else?

Clean it with whatever is handy! Carb cleaner would be good. But be wary of putting anything other than petrol near the diaphragm. Generally - they just need the points cleaning (or in extremis -renewing) and off the go for another 40 years of gentle ticking.
