Van Reatoration

Hello, I am new to this foum but have owned minors for many years.
I intend to give my Grandson (who is trainong to br a Plumber)my 1971 Pickup. It has been stored under cover all its life but needs a lot of work now to make it into a modern car.
My plan is to have the Pickup stripped and repaired, painted and upgraded with alternator, servo and halogens.
I dont have piles of cash under the bed, but want the job done properly and would like to know who you could recommend to do this work.
I have about 7 months to sort this out.

Good luck with your project. Can you tell us which part of the country you are in, and how much of the work you and your grandson could do yourselves?

Hello, The Pickup is with me in France, we have easy access to ferries so the plan was to trailer the vehicle to the specialist.
Although it is a runner, I dont think that there is any point in doing any work as it will most likely need to be done properly by the restorer.
I do plan to do some of the mechanical upgrades myself, but expext that once the car is with a garage, I will get talked into letting them do the work.
Again its all down to budget and over here every euro has to go a long way at the moment.

hello, how bad is the pick up? i am 3/4 done on my restoration now which has been... new chassis lots of bits and lots of body work refurbed box unleaded head alternator but all the rest is as normal. its cost me about 5k with about £1000 of that outside labour. do you have a budget?

Self restorations can be costly, so adding labour will require a re-mortgage.

gives some quoted prices... they have lots of zeros on the end! I would recommend giving it a go yourself or doing as much as you can yourself before giving it to a professional.
pm Jonathan, he may give you a rough guide, he's my recommended resident pro on here. ;)
