i everyone
im so frustrated with rad hoses as they keep splitting. i bought a top hose and it lasted 3 months and then my bottom hose split today which is only 12 mounths old
does anyone know why they keep splitting????
and whats the best replacement?????
thanks andrew
I'm guessing its the "kevlar reinforced" ones you are having trouble with. For risk of moderation I will say they are rubbish and don't last very long. Try and sort out some normal rubber ones or find some NOS items at jumbles or on ebay etc....

If you have a decent car spares shop near you, sometimes they sell repair bandage tape for radiator pipes. Not a fix, but may limp you along until Mr Ebay turns something up!
I guess that you will be catching the bus on Monday but if you phone a Minor parts supplier first thing in the morning they should put it in the post 1st class.
I too got sick of replacing them so in the end dug deep and bought some silicone hoses.
From memory they were about 40 quid off eBay but worth it if they last well.
Doesn't help you get the car sorted for Monday but might save you going through the same thing again in a few months.
went to bull motif this morning and bought one with dads car, my dad was driving the moggy down side roads and it was great fun. sideways a few times and wheel spin some times. proper motoring had to srape the inside of the windows as well.
just to let u know i cant drive so thats whats my dads for
I spent 2 hours yesterday clearing the snow from the length of road in front of my house. No-one else bothered - yet they complain they can't get up the hill to go to work ...........

No need for moderation as its unfortunately a well known fact that they are not as good as the originals but the suppliers dont seem to be able to get a better alternative at this time, although as stated the silicon ones are available from one of the specialists but not cheap.

I think they come in all sorts of colours. I have just asked Samco if they will make a kit for the minor available. They do them for other classics.
Maybe the more that ask the more likely they are to produce a set of hoses (and in black).
I'm now on my third Kevlar hose, first two split and this one doesn't seal properly.
Perhaps they should be described as 'Kevlar weakened' instead of 'Kevlar reinforced'.
