under body protection

after welding in a few new panels i have ground all the rust and underseal from the underside of the car back to shiny steel.
i want to now put some form of protection on the car. on the underside and in the wheel arches.
what can i use?
whats best?
what gives the best look?
whats not messy to apply?
the car is at the moment is upside down without the rear axel and the front suspension. oh yes no engine as well.
ideas and recomendations welcome

Rust killer - such as Jenolite - followed by zinc rich undercoat - then chassis black paint!

hello,i used 2 coats of red oxide and 2 coats of boat paint,the stuff they use on the hulls,i got it from the local boat sales,the thinking was if it will stand salt water it should stand anything!,followed by high impact waxoil on the exposed areas,like inner wheel arches and areas where water or debis from the road is likely to be thrown up from the wheels,the rest normal cavity wax,used this method some 12 or so years ago on the zephyr and it is still ok,i check it regular and havant had any welding to do since,ill use it again on the moggy when done,volvo also do a cavity and underbody wax ,its very good but not cheep!

I do similar to BMC ecosse, except more belt and braces:-

1. Remove all rust paint and underseal (to shiny metal).
2. Paint with zinc rich primer
3. Seam seal any welds or seams using brushable seam sealer (or from a tube) (essential to keep moisture out).
4. chassis black paint
5. Underbody wax protection (dinitrol or waxoyl)

In high impact areas such as wheel arches or under wings, I do this:-

1. Remove all rust paint and underseal (to shiny metal).
2. Paint with zinc rich primer
3. Seam seal any welds or seams (essential to keep moisture out).
3 1/2. Apply anti stonechip paint
4. chassis black paint
5. Underbody wax protection (dinitrol or waxoyl)

underbody wax topped up yearly in a regularly used car.

One problem with using a 'thick' paint olike red oxide primer is that it can chip, and adhesion is not always good on bare metal.
You can get zinc ritch etch primers, but I also suspect the jenolite stuff will 'etch' itself. I've not used jenolite for ages but it seemed to 'coat' the metal rather than paint it.
