Disable the Heater

Hello all,

I'm in the process of putting together a 58 Tourer for a friend and his car was imported from Bermuda a few years ago and now he is finishing it. My question is, since this car didn't come with a heater but still has a heater valve on it (different engine) what's the best way to blank off the heater valve or should I say disable it?

There is a little plate that can be bolted on the head in place of the valve - sort of lozenge shape. Not too hard to make one from 1/8" thick steel !

So, what would you do with the heater hose end attached to the water pump?

Thanks Steve

Why not just put a piece of heater pipe between the two?

Is there is a reason you can't run a pipe from the water pump to to the heater tap and just have the circulation round the engine block?

You will could blank off the outlet at the water pump and the heater tap. As BMC suggests a blank plate onto top of the cylinder heard (remove the heater tap first) and then a suitable sized pipe with an end on it to blank off the outlet and secure it with a jubilee clip.

Use a bottom hose without heater take off!

All good suggestions!

It's given me something to consider, thanks again for that!

In hot climate - Mini lads use the connections to run an auxiliary radiator, which can be the rad out of a heater!

The car came without a heater matrix and he told me that he doesn't intend to install one as he wants to keep it original from where he got it. I guess he figures that he will only drive this car in the spring and summer months.
The temp here is usually like yours in the summer and occasionally gets beyond 32c, they say the weather here is like the UK, rainy!
