Jumped in the minor the other day for a cheer me up spin......alas, the pedal hit the floor

Pulled everything apart, changed the slave cylinder seals, bled, no good still. Went out and bought a master overhaul kit, puled everything apart and - eh?? Nothing fits!

Im running Rover SD1 V8 running gear and manual box. The slave was standard SD1 fitment & I purchased an SD1 kit to fit the master, but its totally different to what ive physically got fitted.

The master cylinder has nothing etched on it and no numbers or clue as to what its from. I assumed, and was told it was SD1 which made sence to me, but the bores quite large 15mm. The sleeve the seal which has gone has an internal diameter of 10mm, the SD1 kit I had was only something like 5mm, so way too small.

ANyone recognise one of these???

looks a bit like a landrover one, and the one the minor centers sell for a hydraulic conversion

Are there any clues by way of markings/ numbers, on the cylinder casting itself ?

Rimmer Brothers www.rimmerbros.co.uk stock SD1 Rover stuff and there website mentions a number of different of clutch master cylinders.Might be worth a look / phone call ?
The angle looks about right for an SD1.

No markings on the cylinder at all.

Have emailed Rimmer with pics so fingers crossed they'll know!

my first fuess was landrover - as it looks rather similar.
They were often original equipment from Lucas / Girling so have a look via ebay to see if you can identify something that looks the same.
When you know vaguely what you need, you could check the seal dimensions with a landrover parts supplier...
However, for Landrover parts, the entire cylinder is likely to be less than £20 delivered.
Landrover parts changed from imperial to metric in approx 1983 / 1984 so if yours has an imperial pipe fitting, then if you replace the cylinder you'll want the same.

i have one that is very similar to this in my traveller and it was from an old landcrab(before the austin maxi)

Austin 1800.

Apparently the cylinder unit I have is from a Standard morris Minor and nothing from an SD1.


hmmmmm. Think i'll be binning their catalogue!

Hi, i think that looks like a triumph herald clutch master cylinder. I have rebuilt a few of these, very easy to do.
