thanks everybody for the replies,but i think i've got the leads wrong to the cap, i know it 1342, but as i'm looking at the dizzy cap no1 lead is at
about 4 0'clock, is that right, thanks again

Usually it would be more around 8 o clock. Turn engine until number 1 cylinder is firing. Take off dizzy cap and look at position of rotor arm. This will be pointing to number 1 lead. Attach this lead then the others in the correct firing order anti clockwise.

It doesn't matter where the lead is - but as PSL explains - it must be firing the correct cylinder at the right time!

Cylinder number one is at the bulkhead end... can someone confirm I am right???

Normally - would be at the rdaiator. But it doesn't matter a hoot - as long as it fires at the right time. Then 1342 anti-clock around the dizzy cap.
