fitting an oil pressure gauge

Post by SvMinor »

I want to fit an oil pressure gauge and also want to keep the light on the speedo.
I know its possible to fit a T piece and keep the light on the speedo.

My question is,

When I go to the motor factors what kit should I ask for?

What type of T piece should I get?
Would the T piece be a standard fitment or do I need a Morris or Rover 1.

Cheers Mark

See the answers to your previous post with regards to the type of T piece to get - it is a standard fitting. And as BMC has already suggested, a kit to fit a mini will do. I'm sure the motor factor staff will be helpful if you explain what it is that you want.

Minisport have the T piece - and the other bits and pieces.

Note - it correctly adapts from 1/8" BSP to 1/8" NPT - although there is very little difference anyway! You also need a pipe and a gauge - and something in which to mount the gauge.
Good choice though - this, and an ammeter, and possibly a water temp gauge are well worth fitting!

The best gauge on the market is the Smiths combined oil pressure/water temp. gauge. Can be a bit pricey though. The earlier the gauge the better as they went from fahrenheit to centigrade and then hot, normal, cold.

BMC, you're close, but, actually NPT is "National Pipe Tapered", on the other hand, NPS is "National Pipe Straight". :D :D :D

Ahhh - yes! I remember now! Over here - we would use BSPT to indicate the taper version of the BSP thread - if no 'T' it's assumed to be NOT tapered.

I went to my local Motor Factors and asked for an oil pressure kit for a mini or morris minor,
He laughed at me and said no we dont carry anything like that.

HOW RUDE I THOUGHT!

Ive been lookin at ammeters on ebay and found different scales on them, there are 30/30 50/50 60/60 Which should I go for.Does it matter about the high and low scales.

Not really - The smaller the scale, ie 30/30, the more deflection you will get. However, a 30 amp charge (or discharge) would be more than I would expect for a Moggie so a 60/60 will be way over the top !!

Yes - 30/30 is fine! Immediately after starting my meter rarely shows more than 10 amps charge - and that just for a few seconds.

Here in the states I just went to my local hardware shop and got brass T and double male adaptor. Total price about $ 4. Maybe I can make a fortune shipping plumbing bits over to Blighty?
