948 A-series = At what rpm do you change your gears?

Post by h20_mako »

Would like to know what rpm do you change your gears?

And also what rpm is best for optimum fuel saving and also what rpm is best suited for cruising.

Thanks
Jason

If you are worrying about cruising revs and saving fuel then you are not enjoying driving your Morris.

It had overheated once and had to be overhauled so changed new head and now it does not seem to be revving as happily as before. which is my worry it seems to be screaming at around 3000rpm every time but speed still is increasing.

So i am wondering what is the issue. I am afraid that l might damage Minty if i over rev her and I do not want her to suffer again. And its not really easy to maintain a classic here in Singapore as there aren't many experience person I can turn to.

With my 3.7 diff - my 1098 will do 50mph in second and 80mph in third gear. Engine does sound quite 'busy' at these speeds.

while everone else is comparing screeming gearchanges .How is your ignition timing set? maybe out giving you false impression ,with practice youll know when to change gear even with the radio going full blast
