New member - in Austria

Hello to all here,

I am a new member, but not new to Morris Minors:-)

To make a small introduction:

Love MMs since a child (born 1963; I wrote a fictive Minor-road test in one of my schoolbooks in 1970, just to proove that I am addicted...)

Owned a 1959 Van as my first car in 1980. Several Minors, amongst other cars (i.e MG Midget, Austin A40, Landrover S2), followed.

Today I use a post prod. Tourer as daily summer driver - owned since 1983, converted 1985 and resprayed from Maroon to Glacier white. Never restored, therefore not "new", but a nice, faultless car.

1969 Traveller and 1955 Series2 Van (with chessegrater gr., not 100% complete) are waiting for restauration.

Sadly not much Minors left in Austria - ca. 50 registrated and road-worthy, estimated a further 100 - 200 "sleeping" in various sheeds and garages.

I made a quick look around in the forum - interesting topics and friendly people...I think I will read on....!!!

Hello Carlos,

...thanks for the greetings...have dreamed since a long time to make a trip to Portugal with a MM (...not only to take some bottles of those fine ports home, of course)...but the trip takes at least 2600kms one direction, so didnt find enough spare time. But some day!!

I've been to Austria three times and thoroughly enjoyed it. The first time I hired a car at Salzburg airport and stayed at St Johann im Tyrol. I drove to Cortina in it, over the Grossglockner road (The car seemed to lose a bit of power near the top). Wish I'd had my MG. I also saw the solar eclipse, of 1999, from the shores of Wolfgangsee (Outside the White Horse Inn). I'd like to spend some time there.

I visited Kaprun that first time and stayed there on the two further visits, as there was plenty of good walking to be done. There's a car museum under one of the hotels in Kaprun.

...almost every year I do a trip to the Großglockner with the MM (but the braaaakes...) - even for Austrians still spectacual.
And, I have been to England several times, mostly in the southern part...I have enjoyed every second!

Welcome Karl. Not quite Austria, but Mary and me went to Switzerland in the summer for the annual rally. There are only about 50 members in the Swiss club, and not all of them have a morris.

Ths Scottish Highlands are very spectacular (They've been there a bit longer than the Alps, so have been worn down more), though in a different way to the Alps. Like the UK has differences, I expect Austria is the same. I've not been to Vienna or Linz but I understand that those places are flatter; just as southern Britain is relatively flatter than the north and west.

I live in a hilly part and although my local "Mountain" is not that high, I like it; which reminds me I must get out my walking boots again.

One thing, I would miss about the UK, is our old preserved steam railways - http://www.heritagerailways.com/. Hi Karl,
My convertibles are both LHD, the Traveller is RHD,
the wite Old English before was RHD, but when I bougth him last Year in England /August) I asked to change to LHD, the Traveller also bought in England on last Year (October), but due of Iam the second owner and she is very original I keep her as RHD, and is funny to drive in that way.
The MM Series is LRH original because this car was Imported to Portugal in November 1949.
Hi, bay the way both cars bought in England, was driving from England to Portugal by road and we take 48 Hrs driving and I have allways time to sleep to eat and so one, it was perfect.
