firstly - can i just thank Bob yet again - he is becoming my personal AA!

I think we have come full circle - after a slight kerbing, lily b sulked and refused to start again. Came back to her the next day (i was on the way to a gig) and she started first time. cockily turned her off and then she failed to start again.

The starter seemed solid, but after a bit of rocking i was rewarded with the sound of something turning and spinning. No starting.

So now i'm assuming it's the bendix - so on a scale of 1 to 10 - how difficult is cleaning the starter, and if it's beyond me - can a "normal" garage do it?

i am thinking of treating her as an electric car - taking my charger / jumper with me and just running a long extension lead....bugger if she stalls though!!

Just pull the starter out - two bolts + one cable, and wash the bendix clean with 'carb cleaner' spray can. Work it back and forh with more washing until it runs smoothly. NO oil! It works dry. Your problem may aslo be down to bad connections at the battery. Do remember you (should) have a starting handle in the boot!

so i just need to take the black distributor thing to get to it?

i know......i'm rubbish. battery connections are good, and i can never manage with the starting handle - not quite got the hang of it yet.

No - don't touch the dizzy! One bolt from above - you CAN reach it, and the other from below. Take great care with the electrical connection - hold the cable as you undo the nut, so the terminal doesn't turn inside the motor.

If you're not that confident at doing the work youself what is your location? Someone on here may be able to help ;) :D
