I have an MG Midget 1275 engine for my pickup and it came with a gearbox which I am trying to identify.

It is a MOWOG unit and has a number stamped on it 22A478.

I am guessing it is an MG Midget four speed box but need confirmation is anyone can help.

It's unlikely to be anything else! As long as it has 'ribs' on the casing then at least it;s not a 948 box! The Midget boxes look v similar to the normal ribbed 1098 box - external ID is that it comes with a reversing light switch built in. Pop up a picture!

Externally the 1275 box looks the same as the 1098, except for the reversing light switch. The gears and bearings are different and the ratios are closer stacked. You can fit the standard 1098 clutch release mechanism on to the diaphram clutch with a mod to the relay lever.

If your 1st motion shaft has 22g 229 stamped on it, it is a 1275 box, you can see this from inside the bell housing.

Inside bell housing has 22G121 stamped on it. The front cover in the bell housing has 22G118 stamped on it.

You need to look carefully at the 1st motion shaft.

The hydraulic pipe would suggest that it is a Midget box.
