According to James May, on a TV show he did about children's games, Meccano put mistakes in the instructions to make the kids think

Taking of deliberate mistakes. The A-Z map of London has some extra streets in that do not exist so that they can identify people who pirate their maps.

Thats quite common, google maps have the same system
