hi my mate has just changed jobs and the company car has gone back so I have loaned him my mx5 it is a 92 automatic jap import it has bleeper fitted to it which sounds when you start it up and put it in reverse but it now stays on constant
we did disconnect it but the problem is the battery is running flat after about 30 to 40 miles there are no warning lights on the dash and the fan belt is ok, we reconnected it and it is still on constant and the battery is still going flat we have put two different batteries on the car
any ideas

Have you checked the condition of the alternator - is it charging? If it isn't that is probably the cause of the flat battery.

thanks for the reply lou the ignition light is going out when the engine is running so not sure its the alternator the other problem is the buzzer is constant also when this was disconnected the horn stopped working ??

Either it's not charging - or there is a BIG discharge going on. You need to test the battery volts when the engine is running at a fast idle - should be 14 volts if charging. If only 12 volts - it's not charging.

I had a Fiat with a duff alternator (no charge whatsoever) that still managed to put the ignition light out once started - as stated, you'll have to do a voltage check with the engine running. If it is charging properly, have you access to an ammeter to see what's flowing out (being drawn from) of the battery?

Is it something simple like a boot open or top not up properly warning buzzer?
